Belinda Geertsma grew up on a farm in Iowa and attended Dordt College where she received her bachelors degree in social work. This is also where she met her husband Jim. She is presently a part time licensed social worker at Bethany Christian Services working with parents whose children are in foster care. In addition to her role as a social worker, she loves being a mother to four adult kids and grandmother to three adorable grandchildren. Belinda enjoys traveling, music, time spent with family and friends, and being active outside.
Prior to her work in foster care, her work primarily centered around domestic and international adoption. And, because of her work in this area, she had the opportunity to travel to orphanages in China, Ethiopia, and Haiti. It was during this time that Belinda began the process of better understanding the reality of so many in society who are underprivileged and marginalized. And she is passionate about wanting to do what she can to help change this inequality.
Belinda received a Congressional award for her example and commitment to promoting adoption.
